Will My Kitten Be Accustomed To People?
|
Yes, your kitten has been gently petted and cuddled since birth by our family. We feel that human imprinting from day one, makes for a better family pet.
What Is Imprinting? Imprinting is a form of learning that happens at an early age and lasts the lifetime of the animal. The first person to thoroughly investigate the imprinting process was the Austrian ethologist, Konrad Lorenz, who won the Nobel Prize in 1973 for his contributions to animal behavior. Imprinting takes place during a relatively brief period of time called the sensitive period, after which the information learned during the imprinting process either cannot be or is very difficult to reverse. |
Do You Allow Visitors?
We love for people to visit us and pick out their kitten in person. (we do understand that sometimes this is not possible for some families.) We do provide photos, videos, and detail descriptions of each kitten to help with the selection process.
After you have selected your kitten, your 2nd visit will be when you pick your kitten up.
Each Savannah buyer is allowed up to 2 visits. 1st visit is to make their kitten selection in person. 2nd visit is always at 10 weeks when you come and pick up your kitten. We do not allow additional visits, as we try to limit the amount of contaminates that are brought onto our farm. This is for the safety of all of our animals and for the safety of your kitten. We have never experienced an outbreak of a deadly disease on our farm and we are trying to keep it that way) We ask that you don't visit another breeder or pet store (on the day of your visit) before coming to our farm.
Please respect our 2 visit rule and do not request further visits. With raising 12 children & having a farm to run, we stay very busy. As much as we love our kitten families, we must keep our children as our top priority. We want our children to know they are special and are important to us, so we have to guard our time so that we have time to spend with each individual child each day. Thank you for understanding! How much are kitten Deposits?
Puppy deposits are $412.00 - and are Non-Refundable, but transferrable between our waitlists.
What If The Timing Ends Up Wrong, Can I Transfer My Deposit To Another Litter or Receive a Refund?
Deposits are Non-Refundable, but are transferrable between our waitlists. (paypal fees are not refundable)
Our breeding plan is determined by the number of deposits we receive. Our practice as responsible breeders is not to overpopulate and mass produce. We breed based on the demand, so once you place your deposit, we're committed to providing a kitten for you, but the commitment is two ways. Please don't place a deposit with us along with other breeders in an attempt to get your kitten from whichever comes first and then double back and DEMAND your deposit back.
When requesting to transfer your deposit to another litter you will be placed at the next available slot on the waitlist you're requesting to be transferred to. For ex.>> If you were #7 on a waitlist but want to transfer to another waitlist that is at #10, you would be transferred to slot #11 as that is the next available slot.

How Long Can We Stay On Your Waitlist?
You can remain on the waitlist and keep your selection slot for up to 1yr- UNLESS we've failed to produce a litter for you to select your kitten from- otherwise you will be placed on an inactive or no waitlist number list, where you can remain for up to 2 yrs. If within this time you "resurface" or decide you're ready for a kitten, we will return you to the waitlist at the most current available slot. After two years, the deposit is forfeited.
What If I Can't Keep The Cat Due Unforeseen Circumstances In The Future?
We require that you sign a contract saying that you will return the kitten/cat back to us, if you ever decide you cannot or don't want to keep the cat. It does not matter to us how old the cat is. We will happily take the cat back for ANY reason, at ANY point in the future. --but we do not return the payment for the cat, as we do not allow 'trial' periods and want each family to to make sure they are making a permanent decision when adding a kitten to their family.
Do You Require A Spay Or Neuter Contract?
Yes- The spay and neuter guidelines are detailed in the Health Guarantee received during the adoption placement.

What Has Been Your Feeding Schedule For the Kittens?
We have water and dry kitten food available at all times during the day to the puppies. We also feed our kittens cooked salmon, ground beef, chicken, turkey and eggs. We feed whole fresh food to our adult cats, in addition to cat food, as it is more nutritional dense than cat food, so we do the same for our kittens. We also feed the kittens Royal Kitten wet kitten food daily.
Do I have to take my kitten home exactly on Kitten Pick Day?
You must pick up your kitten within a week of your kitten's Kitten Pick Up Day Availability. If you need your kitten to have an extended stay with us, then you can let us know that you will need to board your kitten. ($25/day)
Can You Tell The Eye Color At Birth?
No, kittens are born with their eyes shut and their eyes don't open until 10-14 days old. Then their eyes look rather blueish/grayish. Their eyes are usually their permanent color by 10-12 weeks.
What Litter Box To Get For My KittenWe have tried just about every litter box system out there. We love the Breeze litter box. There is no smell and no mess. With regular litter, the cat tracks it out of the litter box and it definitely is smelly, even the ones that say they are not. But the Breeze litter system is the only one where the urine is not mixed in with the litter. It has a trey below that you can pull out and empty to get rid of the urine. And you can scoop the poop out as well. So it stays nice and clean and smell free. Another big plus is that you can use regular pine pellets instead of the normal chemical filled regular cat litter. And it is a MUCH cheaper. You can also get 40 pounds bags of the pine pellets at Tractor Supply for $5.99 per bag. I am happy to talk with you about how the system works.

Vaccines
http://drjeandoddspethealthresource.tumblr.com/post/78666367482/maternal-antibodies-vaccines#.VPTTmoskQ23
It is very important that your kitten gets a 3 way shot by 12 weeks old. This is when the vaccine is the most effective, as the maternal antibodies are gone and no longer interfere with the effectiveness of the kitten's vaccine.
What is the recommended vaccine schedule?
7-8 weeks old --First 5 way kitten vaccine,
12 weeks old --Second 5 way kitten vaccine, which
16 weeks old -- Third 5 way kittenvaccine, which
5-6 months old -- Rabies vaccine
4-6 Months old -- Neuter or spay kitten
Worming schedule
Kittens should be wormed according to the datasheet of the product but, as a guideline, they should be wormed at 2 weeks, 5 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks of age. They should then be wormed monthly until they are 6 months of age. After this, they should be wormed at least 4 times a year. And we recommend that you continue to worming schedule at home. Wormer can be purchased from you vet, your local pet store and online. All wormers are not the same. Make sure you check the active ingredients.
There are parasites that are common to cats, like round worms, giardia, coccidia. (birds are always carriers of parasites like giardia and coccidia and when a bird poos, it many times leaves behind some parasite friends) We ALWAYS follow the above worming schedule, in an effort to prevent any parasite issues. But pregnant and nursing mother's immune systems are susceptible to parasites, so on occasion a kitten could go home with a parasite that has not been fully eliminated by our worming routine, so make sure to have your kitten checked for parasites, if you notice your kitten having diarrhea (that goes beyond the first 1-2 days of being home, as the stress of changing homes, can cause stomach upset) and follow your vets recommendations for treatment. (which is typically the same as the preventative treatments. Fenbenzadole/Pancur 1xday for 7 days, and pyrantel 2 doses in a 2 week time period) Kittens also have immature immune systems which are even more vulnerable under stress. Leaving our family and joining yours is a very stressful time in your kitten's life. And kittens have the tendency to drink out of puddles, lick their paws, after they have walked on soil that may have been contaminated by bird's stool, and thus ingest a parasite, that they may not be able to fight off while under stress.
What is the recommended vaccine schedule?

If we decide that having a kitten is too much work, after having the kitten for a few days or weeks, can we return the kitten & get a refund?
No, we do not offer test run kittens or refunds. Getting a new furry family member is a serious decision and a big commitment. Make sure you are up for the commitment before placing your deposit. You may return the kitten or cat to us, at any point in the cat's lifetime, but no refunds will be given.
Our adult cats get daily vitamins and probiotics. This is where we get these items from.

BioSensor - The "Super Pet Program" -The Making of A Smarter Pet.
Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) or also called BioSensor Program or "The Super Prt Program", is a method used to develop high achievers. Early neurological stimulation exercises could have important and lasting effects. Studies have confirmed that there are specific time periods early in life when neurological stimulation has optimum results. The first period involves a window of time that begins at the third day of life and lasts until the sixteenth day. It is believed that this interval of time is a period of rapid neurological growth and development, and therefore is of great importance to the individual.
The "Bio Sensor" program was also concerned with early neurological stimulation in order to give the pet a superior advantage. Its development utilized six exercises, which were designed to stimulate the neurological system. Each workout involved handling the baby once each day. The workouts required handling them one at a time while performing a series of five exercises. Listed in no order of preference the handler starts with one baby and stimulates it using each of the five exercises. The handler completes the series from beginning to end before starting with the next baby. The handling of each baby once per day involves the following exercises:
1. Tactile stimulation - holding the baby in one hand, the handler gently stimulates (tickles) the baby between the toes on any one foot using a Q-tip. It is not necessary to see that the baby is feeling the tickle. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds.
2. Head held erect - using both hands, the baby is held perpendicular to the ground, (straight up), so that its head is directly above its tail. This is an upward position. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds
3. Head pointed down - holding the baby firmly with both hands the head is reversed and is pointed downward so that it is pointing towards the ground. Time of stimulation 3 - 5 seconds
4. Supine position - hold the baby so that its back is resting in the palm of both hands with its muzzle facing the ceiling. The baby while on its back is allowed to sleep struggle. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.
5. Thermal stimulation - use a damp towel that has been cooled in a refrigerator for at least five minutes. Place the baby on the towel, feet down. Do not restrain it from moving. Time of stimulation 3-5 seconds.

Important Information on Parasites
Please note that kittens may pick up common parasites, such as Giardia, coccidia, roundworm etc. We do everything in our power to prevent and eliminate these parasites by putting cats and kittens on a strict de-worming program. However, mother cats tend to be more vulnerable to parasites when they are pregnant or have kittens, and may pass them along to the kittens. Depending on the life cycle of the particular parasite, it is possible that on occasion, a kitten will go home with one. Please keep your kitten on the preventative worming schedule of every two weeks until the kitten is 20 weeks old.
Do We Get To Come In and Tour Your Home?
We don't allow kitten visitors to tour our home. When you add children to your family through adoption, who have experienced traumatic loss, you have to be very conscientious to provide them a secure home environment. Strangers can trigger anxiety and we try to have our home be a safe oasis for our children. And as nice you might be, our children don't know you and thus don't know if you are safe. And we don't want any of our children to feel on edge because their are strangers in their personal space.
But to give you an idea of how we live, here is a video of the farm/home we moved from. We bought this as a fixer upper and worked on it as a family, doing drywall, flooring, painting, kitchen, bathrooms, electrical, etc... We had lots of fun putting the house together. The stone that is on the front of the house, we bought off craigslist. The pillars, we got at the county landfill and with a good cleaning and paint they gleamed once again. We hunted down appliances at yard sales. And as a family, worked on our drywalling skills. :-) We installed the kitchen cabinets. It was a fun project. We recently moved see video above, and will be providing exterior video soon.
